Les Claypool launched this "Claypool Gold Tour" this past Wednesday, seeing him front Primus and other bands through a series of hits.
Primus, The Claypool Lennon Delirium and the Fearless Flying Brigade all shared the stage.
Prog-alternative band Haken have shared a new single "In a Fever Dream," which is their first piece of new music in three years.
Les Claypool brought all kinds of treasure to the stage last night (May 20th) during the tour opener of his “Claypool Gold” tour, a rotating psych-and-funk showcase from his bands Primus, the Claypool Lennon Delirium and the Fearless Flying Frog Brigade. As previously reported, the tour is being staged similarly to the 2024 and 2025 Sessanta shows that Primus had undertaken with A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, where the bands would take turns performing sets before delivering a big collaborative finale. First up at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada, were the Frogs, who hopped through a five-song opening set of Claypool-penned numbers — including songs from the Brigade proper, as well as a run-through of “Precipitation,” which Claypool had delivered with his Holy Mackerel backup band in the mid Nineties. The Claypool Lennon Delirium were up next, and they delivered a trio of live premieres from their recent, AI-weary concept album The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy. This included “The Golden Egg of Empathy,” “Troll Bait” and psychedelic jam number “WAP.” They then took off into a closing cover of Pink Floyd’s “Astronomy Domine.” Primus headlined the night, with Claypool, guitarist Larry “Ler” LaLonde and semi-recently instated drummer John Hoffman leaning into the classically thwacked “Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers” first. The group also gave a live premiere to their new “The Ol’ Grizz” single, while also hitting Pork Soda favorites “My Name is Mud” and “Welcome to this World,” the iconically Cheese-y “Jerry Was a Racecar Driver” and more. Night one wrapped with all the musicians taking a trip through Tales from the Punchbowl-era Primus single “Southbound Pachyderm.” You’ll find “Claypool Gold” photos and concert footage from throughout the night up above and down below, where you’ll likewise see the setlist details (per setlist.fm). The bands hit the Hayden Homes Amphitheater in Bend, Oregon tomorrow (May 22nd). You’ll find the rest of the “Claypool Gold” tour schedule here. In related news, Primus’ forthcoming A Handful of Nuggs EP gets a physical release July 24th via ATO Records. Pre-orders for exclusive vinyl copies on “Gold Splatter” and “Black and Gold Blend” (limited to 500 copies each) are up now in Revolver’s shop.Claypool Gold setlist 5/20/26:Frog BrigadeUp on the RoofLust StingsDavid MakalasterPrecipitationD s DinerClaypool Lennon DeliriumSouth of RealityBlood and Rockets: Movement I, Saga of Jack Parsons Movement II Too the MoonThe Golden Egg of Empathy (Live debut)Troll Bait (Live debut)WAP (What a Predicament) (Live debut)Astronomy Domine (Pink Floyd cover)PrimusThose Damned Blue-Collar TweekersLast Salmon ManAmerican LifeThe Ol Grizz (Live debut)Hellbound 17 1/2 (Theme From) (First time played since 10/27/12)Bob s Party Time LoungeShake Hands With BeefWelcome to This WorldMy Name Is MudJerry Was a Race Car DriverEncore (all three bands)Southbound Pachyderm View this post on Instagram

So many things happened this week in metal, from a captured killer to a last minute surprise from our boys in Converge.
Here at Revolver, we re always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it s a big part of our jobs. With that in mind, here are the tracks released this week in thrash, nu-gaze, djent and more that have been on heavy rotation at Revolver HQ. For your listening pleasure, we ve also compiled the songs in an ever-evolving Spotify playlist. Anthrax It s For the Kids Anthrax are back in the madhouse. Won’t you join them? It has been a long time coming, but the New York thrash icons are finally pulling the trigger on their first LP in over a decade, and they’ve fired off a serious heater with Cursum Perficio’s introductory “It’s For the Kids.” Scott Ian leans into insanity-spiraling whammy bends before the group lock in with an intensely aggressive, singularly anthemic arrangement. The band and their fans bash the hell out of each other in the asylum-set music video. Pure, glorious metal madness. Beartooth Pure Ecstasy As it was foretold, a demon has been awakened within Beartooth vocalist Caleb Shomo, and he’s waging war with the world on the band’s new, heavy-edged “Pure Ecstasy.” Shomo has been undergoing personal and artistic metamorphoses, going by the lyrics to this and Beartooth’s recent “Free” single. With this latest cut — the title track to their next LP — he lets it be known that the pressure cooker has hit its boiling point and he s sick of holding himself back. Accordingly, he fully pummels the cut with a bunch of grizzly growls. Full of big-time chugs and earworm heaviness, this one was co-written by Periphery guitarist Misha Mansoor — who we’ll get back to in a second. Casey Edwards Amira Elfeky Bazooka “My bazooka/Make the devils cry.” Composer Casey Edwards tapped rising alt-metal artist Amira Elfeky to sing on this track for the second season of Netflix anime Devil May Cry. While Elfeky generally brings a cool and confident croon to lines about packing “smoking sexy” artillery, the song — titled after the Kalina Ann rocket launcher hoisted by Devil May Cry’s Lady — also finds her bringing hellacious screams to the table. Edwards pairs all that with guitar-heavy, nu-bombastic explosiveness. Periphery Subhuman (Feat. Will Ramos) As you may expect, Periphery crack into subsonic djent grooves by the metric ton across their newly released LP, A Pale White Dot. While guitarists Misha Mansoor, Jake Bowen and Mark Holcomb deliver a series of freaked-out screeches and ungodly low-tuned tones on the album, a symphony of screams take center stage on “Subhuman” — both thematically, and vis-à-vis the brutal duet going on between vocalist Spencer Sotelo and Lorna Shore’s Will Ramos. The verses get nasty (“Eat, shit and breathe, but the oxygen is here for me”), but the backend breakdown is where the pair harness the “purest hate.” Primus The Ol Grizz The Ol’ Diamondback Sturgeon. Tommy the Cat. Wynona’s big brown beaver. And now the Ol’ Grizz. Primus’ animal kingdom continues to grow with a new treasure-seekin’ song about a prospector coming face-to-face with a giant bear. There’s gold in them thar arrangements, with bassist Les Claypool pulling off a dizzying array of string dynamics throughout the tap-crazed verses, a slap-happy groove and a mid-song low-end solo. Not to be outdone, Larry “Ler” LaLonde offers a stupendously bizarre fret-crawl of his own. Split Chain scatterbrain UK nu-gazers Split Chain will soon be expanding last year’s Revolver-approved motionblur to include alternate takes with guest vocals from members of Roman Candle, False Reality and more. That deluxe edition will also sport the gauzy anthem that is their newly-debuted “scatterbrain.” The track centers in on some of the Bristol quintet’s greatest strengths: bittersweet, effects-soaked guitar hooks, driving post-hardcore propulsion, and the power-ached vocal vulnerability of frontman Bert Martinez-Cowles. The singer said the song is about people pulling away from each other, and the resulting feelings of abandonment. Nothing to worry about here: By the sounds of it, we’re not going to ghost this one anytime soon.
Primus have been panning for gold ahead of their upcoming package tour with the Claypool Lennon Delirium and the Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, and it turns out they found themselves A Handful of Nuggs — enough for the alt-funk greats to collect as an EP of the same name. The “Claypool Gold” tour — starring three bands featuring Primus’ founding bass wiz, Les Claypool — begins next week, and Primus are promoting both the trip and the EP by debuting a screwy string-slapper called “The Ol’ Grizz.” The tune is told from the perspective of a prospector lookin’ to fill his coffers with gold, his journey through the wilderness including a face-off with a big ol’ bear. The track leans into a wobbly groove, sports a mid-song bass showcase, and then gets back to business about the time the prospector pulls out a “plastic 10” in the backend showdown. The impending A Handful of Nuggs EP is streaming now, and arrives on vinyl July 22nd. The five-song effort also includes Primus’ cover of Dio’s “Holy Diver” with singing clown Puddles Pity Party, and their “Little Lord Fentanyl” track with TOOL/Puscifer/A Perfect Circle frontman Maynard James Keenan. You’ll find the EP streaming in full up above. That s the cover art and tracklisting down below, while pre-orders for exclusive, thematically-tinted vinyl pressings on “Gold Splatter” and “Black and Gold Blend” (limited to 500 copies each) are up now in Revolver’s shop, along with other golden goodies from the Primus catalogue. The “Claypool Gold” tour begins May 20th at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada. You’ll find more date info on the rest of the trip here. It’s been a rich season for Claypool fans, in general. His The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy album with the Claypool Lennon Delirium was released earlier this month. A Handful of Nuggs tracklisting:The Ol’ GrizzHoly Diver (ft.
