Ready to ride an emotional rollercoaster on your skateboard? Haywire are flexing good times and ungodly bad times in the new video for “Sincerely Yours,” their shouted-but-pop-punkin’ second single from the upcoming I Don’t Wanna Say Goodbye album. Musically, the new tune merges driving punk rhythms with loud-but-yearning chord work and Austin Sparkman’s shouted reflections on anxieties, death and tough times (“I can feel the sadness through the sound of the telephone”). The video, directed by Luis Hernandez, presents a teen (played by XCOMM vocalist Michael Gatto) with a seriously troubled home life marked by abuse and drug use. But he also pals around with his friends at pool parties, or while grinding skate ramps on the streets. Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian is in the video, too, during a scene were XCOMM do a grab-and-dash at a convenience store. It’s unclear if he’s shoplifting or if he’s supposed to be the shopkeeper. The clip features a few extreme tonal shifts — sometimes going full goofball as Haywire and their foam-headed mascot shoot a goggle-sporting dog with a Super Soaker, sometimes presenting us with a painful look at domestic violence. Fair warning, there are scenes of a father figure belting their kid and hitting their partner. “Sincerely Yours” is the second preview of I Don’t Wanna Say Goodbye, and it follows last month’s “Interstate Love Affair” single. As previously reported, the new album was produced by Citizen’s Mat Kerekes, and it was mixed by Taylor Young (Twitching Tongues, God’s Hate) at The Pit Studio. It was recorded across a three-month span at studios in Leeds, UK, and Toledo, Ohio. It features guest spots from members of Nothing and the Aggrolites, as well as “other friends of Haywire.” The album is out October 2nd via Roadrunner Records, but you can pre-order it on black vinyl from Revolver’s shop.
