Trivium are putting out a "darker, ghostly" album in the form of Crown In The Grave, whose video takes inspiration from the world of Japanese horror.
Trivium are ready rule again. Following the recent reveal of the veteran metal outfit’s stomping single “Dead Inside of Me,” which they said was teasing an impeding 11th full-length, the band have now confirmed that a record called Crown In the Grave releases in full next month. Better still, they unleashed its title cut today (October 8th). Bassist Paolo Gregoletto explained that this latest single was in part inspired by Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa’s Throne of Blood, and horror-style cinema from the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies. Those binge-watches apparently provided a “ghostly atmosphere that became a set of guardrails for the music, lyrics, artwork and overall identity of the record.” The hard-battering but melodic song in turn finds Matt Heafy singing of battles that put the veritable blade to your throat. Accordingly, the music video — which you’ll find up above — brandishes gleaming hardware in a dojo setting, and also draws up bows and arrows for the occasion. “Crown In the Grave is our eleventh record, and when you get this far into a career, it’s easy to rest on what you’ve already done — or to reinvent yourself just for the sake of it,” Gregoletto added of making the album. “With this record, we wanted to find the space between those two things: Take everything we’ve learned and everything that makes Trivium what it is, but present it in ways we hadn’t before.” “Facing yourself is the final quest,” Heafy added, with it being explained that Trivium’s leader faced “mental health struggles, physical injuries, and intense anxiety” through the making of Crown In the Grave. “We had to do it as a band, and I had to do it in my personal life. I freed my mind from the constraints of being worried. I made a decision to just sing.” The new album is the first to be recorded at their The Hangar studio in Orlando, Florida, and is likewise their first full-length with drummer Alex Rüdinger. It was produced alongside Josh Wilbur (Korn, Lamb of God). Crown In the Grave is due out November 20th via Roadrunner Records, though an exclusive vinyl pre-order on “Blue Dreams”-colored wax (limited to 500 copies) is up now in Revolver’s shop, where you’ll likewise find other Trivium releases. As previously reported, Trivium’s next North American headline tour begins November 5th in St. Petersburg, Florida. That trip also has In Flames, Orbit Culture and Frozen Soul.
