After serving up her stellar new “Breakdown” single last week, nu-gazing phenom Amira Elfeky has now broken down some details on her highly anticipated debut album. Dubbed It Was Only a Dream, the album will be out next month. The upcoming LP will be Elfeky’s first longform release, following two EPs and a series of singles. An Instagram announcement from Elfeky today (October 7th) notes that the album involves a concept “where dream Amira and reality Amira collide as one.” This notably comes in the wake of the “Breakdown” music video, which portrayed Elfeky wandering between planes of reality with a pink-haired figure now revealed to be the “dream” version of the artist herself. It’s added that pink is her “color of healing.” “It is a humbling realization when you see the gap between who you are in your dreams and who you show to the world,” she wrote. “In your imagination, the stakes are zero and you move fearlessly. I craved that fearless version of myself to be my real life. Pushing this project into reality was my way of breaking free from the shackles I placed on myself. It reminded me that fear is often something we construct on our own.” She continued: “This idea was over a year in the making. I spent the greater part of my days creating this in complete solitude and I couldn’t be more grateful to put it into the universe.” As for the album’s sound, a press release notes that the upcoming record merges pop and electronic flourishes with Elfeky’s established sound. As previously reported, “Breakdown” was produced by Bring Me the Horizon collaborator Harry James Gilmour, and was co-written by Elfeky, Gilmour and Sophia Brenan (KATSEYE, aespa). A full tracklisting has yet to be revealed, but Elfeky has confirmed that other collaborators on the album include producer Zakk Cervini (Poppy, Three Days Grace) and Goldfinger’s John Feldman. It Was Only a Dream is out November 13th Anemoia Records/Atlantic Records. You can pre-order a bundle bringing together a copy of the album on “Bruised” vinyl (limited to just 500 copies) with a new, 20-page Revolver collector’s zine breaking down It Was Only a Dream track-by-track in Revolver’s shop. We also have copies of the album on “Dream”-colored vinyl, and other Elfeky merch items. View this post on Instagram

Following a socials reset and a bit of online teasing, ambitious nu-gazer Amira Elfeky has delivered her first solo single of the year: “Breakdown.” While the song follows the “Paradise” collaboration with I Prevail from last June, “Breakdown” is the first Elfeky solo joint since her “Hold Onto Me” track from 2025. The artist recently wiped her Instagram account, but relaunched it a couple of weeks ago with a short video of a pink silk sheet floating in the air. The clip ended with the message “Chapter 1: The Dream,” and was captioned “this is going to be a nice dream.” It’s now been revealed that “Breakdown” is the first piece of a broader songwriting experiment for Elfeky. “‘Breakdown’ is chapter 1 in the trilogy,” she shared in a statement. “‘Breakdown’ is about wanting to change, but being too exhausted to take the first step. It’s about hating where you are and how you feel, yet longing for brighter days. It’s about wanting to reach that breaking point and final crash that forces everything out to the surface and finally pushes you forward.”A press release adds that the song was co-written between Elfeky, Harry James Gilmour (Bring Me the Horizon), Sophia Brenan (KATSEYE, aespa), and Oscar Kenny (Mura Masa). It brings out a hypnotizing bash of distorted-but-dreamy melodies. When not cloaked in surrealistically choppy vocal effects, Elfeky offers earnest thoughts of feeling isolated, detailing moments where misery pushes her “off the edge” (“Give me a breakdown”). To fit the dream-like set-up, a music video includes: scenes of Elfeky wandering a forest setting with a mysterious pink-haired figure; the artist getting caught up in a lace-flowing, bruise-inducing interpretive dance push pit; a majestic unicorn; and more. You can see for yourself via the player up above. “Breakdown” is streaming now via Atlantic Records. Elfeky was due to tour Europe with I Prevail this fall, but had pulled out of the trip, citing “unexpected logistical reasons out of our control.” Her next live set takes place October 24th at Sick New World in Fort Worth, Texas.
