Something wicked this way comes — and it turns out it’s the latest single from Breaking Benjamin. While details remain pending on the next full-length release from Breaking Benjamin, the long-running hard-rockers have unleashed another preview, which they call “Something Wicked.” The track is their first in two years, following 2024’s “Awaken,” and they premiered the song live at last weekend s Welcome to Rockville festival. The new tune begins with dramatic synth-phonics before barreling into a deep-and-beefy modern rock arrangement of down-tuned gravitas and chromatic riffiness. Vocalist-guitarist Benjamin Burley weighs in on a relationship’s heaven-and-hell-like dynamic, and an impending force with “eyes like a ravenous monster.” He brings a beastly growl through the parabolic breakdown “‘Something Wicked’ is a quick look into our influences both musically and thematically,” the group say in a joint statement. “We challenged ourselves especially hard on this record and on this song. We pushed every boundary we’ve previously had as far as it will go, then pushed a little more. ‘Something Wicked’ was the result.” While formal news has yet to arrive behind Breaking Benjamin’s next LP, which will be their first original LP since 2018’s Ember, the band tease that something is in the works. In the meantime, the band will be appearing later this this week at the Sonic Temple festival in Columbus, Ohio, and have also been booked for next year’s Creed cruise.
