“When are we going to stop with this Pink Floyd stuff and start playing some metal?”: The story of the most ambitious song in death metal historyIn 1996, Sweden’s Edge Of Sanity filled an entire album with one winding track, inspired by black metal, melodeath, prog and plenty more. It remains a towering achievement long after the band’s break-up.

6 best new songs right now: 6/19/26Here at Revolver, we re always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it s a big part of our jobs. With that in mind, here are the tracks released this week in gothic metalcore, blackened death metal, straight-edge hardcore and more that have been on heavy rotation at Revolver HQ. For your listening pleasure, we ve also compiled the songs in an ever-evolving Spotify playlist. Allt Omertà Though the rules of “Omertà” suggest we not run our mouths about Allt’s latest killer track too much, we’re shouting it out loud that the Swedish unit once again bring it big. Shots are fired from the jump, with cannon-blast kick work and 12-gauge riffage pumping beneath Robin Malmgren s beastliest proclamations. That said, the singer also flaps his gums with triplet-spat, near-rap-styled accents and a briefly crooned break. Interestingly, this continues Allt’s current trend of naming their singles after huge-ass metal anthems. They went post-Sabbath with this spring’s “Snowblind” single, and “Omertà” shares its name with a Lamb of God classic. Talk about setting the bar high. Behemoth I, Scvlptor “I am the hammer and thou art the stone.” Nergal has described the title track of Behemoth’s upcoming album, I, Scvlptor, as “a metaphor for the endless process of shaping oneself.” When it comes to the sound of the song itself, he and the rest of the extreme-metal outfit shape the clay with dread-stirring symphonic ambiance, austerely gloom-swung heaviness and a backend bedlam of bee-buzzing guitar trills. Not a reinvention, but rather Behemoth contorting blackened death-metal sounds with a master’s touch. Brand of Sacrifice Seeing Red “I am the embodiment of hate.” Despite Kyle Anderson’s gargantuanly guttural admission on Brand of Sacrfice’s “Seeing Red” — the first piece of new music from the Canadian outfit since 2023 — fans of the long-running deathcore group will find plenty to love on this latest track. It’s super meta, lyrically alluding to not only 2018 album The Interstice LP but the band itself (“The Brand it bleeds”), and threads the needle with terror-thrashed expulsions, head-crushing breakdowns and dynamic unease. Motionless in White R.I.P. Feat. Skylar Grey We must pay our respects to the third and latest preview of Motionless in White’s forthcoming Decades album. While May s eye-gouging “Playing God” single with Corey Taylor was a brutal beatdown, Chris Motionless’ “R.I.P.” duet with vocalist Skylar Grey suggests that the “darkest places” of MIW’s sound can also be balladic. A tragi-rocking goth-metal love song scented with grave soil, candlewax and regret, it’s a potent heartbreaker on par with past Motionless fan faves like Eternally Yours and Another Life. No Cure Slowly Turning Blue On a pure aesthetic level, Alabaman straight-edge hardcore force No Cure put on a ruthless display with “Slowly Turning Blue,” absolutely pinchmaxxing harmonic tension out of the piece with their B.C. Rich guitars. What’s even heavier are the song’s lyrics reflecting the ongoing opioid epidemic, vocalist Blaythe Steuer steering himself through lines reflecting addiction struggles, O.D.’s and the horror of potentially finding a loved one “slowly turning blue” after a relapse. thrown rehearsed Early into the noise-spiraling, one-note mosh verse of thrown’s new single “rehearsed, vocalist Marcus Lundqvist point-blank screams at us with unbridled fury: “What the fuck is up with that sobbing?” Our answer is that the always-stomping Swedish outfit’s utter heaviness consistently brings up the teary-eyed feels. And while Lundqvist says his “heart is like a light switch,” we can’t turn off the emotions this one’s stirring up. Beautiful, really. On top of the song’s 1,000-ton bench-press of a groove, we’re also going to shout out the weirdo sonic accoutrement of what sounds like a plastic pool noodle whirly-birding itself from speaker-to-speaker.
