Following the crucial glimmer of hope that was yesterday’s “False Light,” Swedish heavy favorites Imminence have upped the ante with another single, as well as the formal announcement of their next album. The group’s Axis Mundi is out later this fall, but its release is being preceded by their second single this week, “Crestfallen.” A press release explains that this week’s diptych of tunes acts as somewhat of a compare-and-contrast excercise, one that balances “devastating heaviness with cinematic breadth,” in order to tease “a record that moves between darkness, catharsis, and light.” “False Light,” as we learned yesterday (July 21st) was an unrelenting attack of screams, thunderously percussive moments and riffs about as pointed as the medieval blades slashing about in the battlefield-made music video. While “Crestfallen” thrives on mega-chunked, melancholic guitar work, it also presents cleaner vocals, immersive orchestration and weeping violin from bow-hoisting frontman Eddie Berg. Axis Mundi follows 2024’s The Black, and was self-produced by Imminence, who worked alongside engineer Henrik Udd (Architects, Bring Me The Horizon, Dayseeker) and producer Drew Fulk (Knocked Loose, HEALTH). When the group unleashed their “The Sword That Never Bends” video in June, they teased its sword-and-sorcery-styled video as “the first glimpse into a larger visual world the band has been building behind the scenes.” Now, the group further explain that their album is framed as a “mythological journey through a world suspended between life and death, exploring themes of suffering, redemption, and the search for light beyond darkness.” Per yesterday’s “False Light” video, the story may entail an epic journey being undertaken by a blade-packing swordsman and his newly-acquired puppy. Axis Mundi is out October 2nd via their new label home, Sumerian Records. As previously reported, Imminence also have a North American tour coming up in November. Imminence have raised their blades high again for their second single of 2026: “False Light.” The Swedish metalcore act’s latest song — which follows last month’s “The Sword That Never Bends” — was released on streamers and within another medieval-minded music video today (July 21st). “False Light” had been teased in a trailer that featured olden days battle action, gleaming swords, and shots of the band performing their violin-bowing metal music amid such violence. The vid follows the magic-versus-mettle arc of their “The Sword That Never Bends,” which had been teased at the time as “the first glimpse into a larger visual world the band has been building behind the scenes.” Now, you can experience the sensory overload of “False Light,” a track that brings together big-bowed gravitas, coal-black guitar chugging and depraved blast-to-mosh dynamics. As for the video, the narrative advances the band’s recent medieval narrative. We follow a knight who suits up for a journey across a distant land, where he encounters grave dangers, runs across a decimated village and finds himself a travel companion in the form of a lil pup. Likewise, we see shots of the group performing the piece, as violinist-frontman Eddie Berg screams and croons of truth, regrets and metaphorical swordplay (“The slow knife cuts the deepest”). Imminence’s most recent songs are expected to be part of the full-length follow up to 2024’s much-loved The Black. Details on the impending LP have yet to arrive, though it will be their first album through new label home Sumerian Records. The band are also set to make their return to North America this fall for a headline tour that begins November 13th at The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts. After unsheathing their steely “The Sword That Never Bends” single earlier in the month, Swedish metalcore expanders Imminence have revealed that they’ll be taking their latest battle track on a North American tour with Dying Wish and Gaerea. The tour schedule dropped earlier today (June 16th), confirming that the European outfit make their way back to North America later this fall for a 22-date trek. This begins November 13th at The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts. The trip heads as far west as California before capping with a pair of Canadian gigs, the last of which being heads up December 13th at Montreal, Quebec’s MTELUS venue. A pre-sale goes live today at noon ET, while the general on-sale is this Friday (June 19th) at 10 a.m. local. You’ll find more details here.
