He launched that run with a pair of shows in New Orleans this week.
Marilyn Manson kicked off his series of 30th anniversary shows behind landmark album Antichrist Superstar last night (October 14th) in New Orleans, Louisiana, bringing a mix of anthemic fan-favorites and deep cuts to the stage. Last night’s performance at the Fillmore in NOLA, billed as “An Evening with Marilyn Manson: Celebrating 30 Years of Antichrist Superstar,” was the first of a two-night stand in the city where Manson and his band — along with producer and Nine Inch Nails member Trent Reznor — undertook the infamously chaotic recording sessions that resulted in 1996 shock opera Antichrist Superstar. Manson and his current band were there to highlight the occasion, but they didn’t end up rolling out the AS30 show as a front-to-back performance of their sophomore album. Instead, they began in medias res with mid-album standout “Angel with the Scabbed Wings”. The night returned a bunch of Antichrist cuts to the stage for the first time in years. Most notably “Kinderfeld,” “Deformography” and “Minute of Decay” — along with era-appropriate “Apple of Sodom,” from the Lost Highway soundtrack — were performed live by Manson for the first time since 1997. “1996” had been stuck in a time capsule since 2012, prior to its reemergence last night. The titular “Antichrist Superstar” shone on-stage for the first time since 2019. Visually, the night found Manson returning to Antichrist era looks of yore, whether suited up and speaking from the pulpit or stalking the stage on stilts. You’ll find fan-shot footage from the evening up above and down below. The full setlist details are down below, too (via setlist.fm). As previously reported, Manson performs another anniversary set at the Fillmore tonight (October 15th). More 30th anniversary shows are booked in San Antonio and Austin, Texas, as well as a two-night finale at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, California. The full date breakdown is here. In related news, Manson has announced that a remastered 2LP edition of Antichrist Superstar arrives early next year. It comes housed in deluxe gatefold packaging, and includes a bonus 24-page booklet. You can pre-order an exclusive, limited-edition variant on “Crystal Clear w/ Black Smoke” wax, which can be bundled with an exclusive Antichrist Superstar vintage-wash T-shirt and a turntable slipmat, in Revolver’s shop. Marilyn Manson released Antichrist Superstar in the fall of 1996, and nothing would ever be the same. While Manson and his band of Spooky Kids had made a name for themselves in the heavy scene in the early Nineties, it’s the group’s sophomore album that firmly established them as the decade’s premiere shock-rock troupe. And a lighting rod for controversy. Mixing elements of Nitzsche, Bowie and Andrew Lloyd Webber with industrial-chugging guitars, haunted-house synth work and Manson’s spectral croaks — and recorded during an infamously drugged-out series of recording sessions in New Orleans — Antichrist Superstar is a gothic opera about a rockstar rising to power and plunging the world into darkness. Loaded with amp-maxing tunes and satirical, possibly prophetic energy, it built up a monster following. 30 years on, we asked our readers to rank the greatest tracks from the album. These were the superstars of said vote. “Dried Up, Tied and Dead to the World” “Don’t you want some of this?” “Dried Up, Tied and Dead to the World” has the somewhat unenviable task on the album of following up Manson’s signature anthem “The Beautiful People.” And yet, this week’s poll had Antichrist Superstar’s third song easily trumping Manson’s highest-charting tune to that point. Our readers ride with “Dried,” if you will. It’s a sleek, sinister tune full of spooky keyboards, bruisingly minimalist guitar chugs and soil-sodden rasps with a drugged-up slant. “Man That You Fear” Fans of “Man That You Fear,” your wish has been granted: Antichrist Superstar’s dark and spaciously-arranged goth-glam kiss-off has cracked the top 5 this week. Grand Canyon-sized snare echo and melancholic keyboards drive the record’s funeral procession forward, while Manson sends out woeful reflections on a life turned to shit. They say a rotten apple spoils the bunch, but the decay on “Man That You Fear” continues to bear great fruit for the faithful. “Tourniquet” Dour. Pained. Passionate. Possessive. “Tourniquet” twists through all of this and more, with Manson taking on the role of someone puppeteering a “crippled plaything” — this partly inspired by a dream he had about building a girlfriend out of prosthetic limbs. A gothic sludge-ballad about misplaced devotion, control and uncomfortable truths. If you didn’t vote for this one, you can take your hatred out on us later. “Angel with the Scabbed Wings” A dark-judded industrial stomp somewhat about society’s fascination with the rock & roll bogeyman, “Angel with the Scabbed Wings” explores the paradox of being repulsed, compelled and thrilled by those living in the extreme (“You don’t wanna see him/You only wanna be him”). A tribal lurch, off-kilter guitar leads and those oddly jubilant tambo hits on the 2’s and 4’s also take hold, giving the track a super danceable feel. Dead is what he is, but “Angel with the Scabbed Wings” still gives plenty of life to Manson’s fans. “The Reflecting God” We asked our readers to shoot their motherfuckin’ shot in the comments, and the consensus seemed to be that Antichrist Superstar’s strongest cut is penultimate soul-gazer “The Reflecting God.” Another way to put it? They truly feel its power. A tight-coiled industrial-funk creep-out grows towards a cathartically dumb-crunched metal chorus. The Worm’s nihilistic sneer contemplates life, death and darkness. He gazes into the abyss, and it provides an empowering, if chilling, revelation: “I went to God just to see/And I was looking at me.” There is a dream inside a dream, and inside that dream Mansonites are spinning “The Reflecting God” on repeat. For many, there is no exit here.

The remastered 2LP edition features the complete album, deluxe gatefold packaging, and a bonus 24-page booklet including previously unreleased photography and handwritten lyrics and sketches from Manson’s personal notebooks from the Antichrist era. “It’s been 30 years since I carved open the American dream and pulled out Antichrist Superstar in all its vitriolic glory,” Manson commented on Instagram. “For us true believers that scar never healed and it became folklore for a culture that forgot what real danger sounded like. I am here to remind everyone.”Revolver has an exclusive, limited-edition variant on “Crystal Clear w/ Black Smoke” wax, plus an exclusive Antichrist Superstar vintage-wash T-shirt and turntable slipmat.
