They might have had a few refreshments prior though.
Mastodon tried to knock one out of Truist Park last night while leading Atlanta Braves fans through a rousing — if oddly off-kilter — version of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”. The seventh inning stretch ritual found the members of Mastodon — drummer Brann Dailor, bassist Troy Sanders, guitarists Bill Kelliher and Nick Johnston, and keyboardist João Nogueira — sporting Braves jerseys while standing on top of a dugout with mics in hand. This included Toronto native Johnston, who you’d figure might be more of a Blue Jays fan. All the same, the collective were introduced as “Atlanta’s own, Grammy-winning metal legends,” and then they let it rip. The progressive veterans kinda struggle to sync up with the pipe organist, leading to a few miffed cues, a woefully staggered set of staccato key stabs, and some slurred words. Dailor, however, belts things out with a quasi-operatic vibrato to get things back on course. A bit rough, but not as rough as the actual game. The Braves got trounced by the Tampa Bay Rays 7-1. You can root, root, root for the fellas by giving the fun performance a peep up above. In related news, Mastodon launch their “Poisonous Weapons” tour next Wednesday (September 16th) at the Hard Rock in Orlando, Florida. It’ll be the band’s first run of tour dates since the release of their ninth album, Marrow Deep. View this post on Instagram
