Neurosis have announced a handful of additional tour dates after their upcoming appearance at Fire In The Mountains festival.

Ahead of Neurosis’ set at this year’s Fire in the Mountains festival — the iconic metal troupe’s first gig in 7 years, and likewise the debut performance with new guitarist-vocalist Aaron Turner (ISIS, Sumac) — the band have announced another trio of upcoming concerts. As previously reported, Neurosis are set to headline the upcoming Fire in the Mountains festival in East Glacier, Montana, which runs July 23rd-26th. Today (July 15th), the act announced that they’ll next pop up at Hellbender in Asheville, North Carolina on September 5th, as part of an epic bill that finds them supporting sludge greats Acid Bath and joined by Melvins and Kylesa. After that, Neurosis will drop into a two-night hometown run at the Fillmore in San Francisco, California, on October 16th and 17th — a press release notes that these headlining dates will be “celebrating their return to the Bay Area where the band was formed.” It’s not yet clear whether opening acts will be announced for these shows. All of these live appearances are set to support Neurosis’ recent — and Revolver-reader-favorited — comeback album, An Undying Love for a Burning World. Tickets to Fire in the Mountains and the gig with Acid Bath are already on sale, while tickets to Neurosis’ Bay Area shows go up for sale this Friday (July 17th) at 10 a.m. PT. Napalm Death brought throes of joy to extreme music fans in the NPR office, becoming the first ever grindcore band to erupt into a Tiny Desk Concert. Today (July 15th), the public broadcaster revealed a right raging mini-set that Napalm Death recorded earlier this year while the U.K. outfit were on their North American tour. The eight-song set pulled from various parts of an epic catalogue, running as far back as Scum songs like “Instinct of Survival,” into From Enslavement to Obliteration’s “Dead” all the way up to material form 2020’s Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism. “The first grindcore band at the Tiny Desk had to be the founding fathers. I turned down or said ‘maybe later’ to so many others — that’s how important it was to me to get this right,” NPR Music’s Lars Gotrich explains in a statement of the extreme booking. “There is only one Napalm Death, not only exemplary of extreme music but also what it takes to be human in what feels like an inhumane time.” Vocalist Barney Greenway shared some banter with the crowd. A push-pit began stage-right, the mosh-frenzy revealed to viewers via one camera’s birds-eye angle. And yes, of course, Napalm also performed ultra-iconic split-second Scum classic “You Suffer.” “I’ve dipped in and out of Democracy Now! via NPR Radio for decades now to get my unvarnished yet thoughtful North American news,” Greenway said in a statement. “So when the NPR Tiny Desk thing came up, it kind of blew my tiny mind a little bit. We realized that we were going to reach far more people than usual with the TD performance, but as you might expect from Napalm Death, we were never going to temper the performance to any degree. “We hope everybody at least gets something from it, even if it’s just an understanding of musical abrasion being pushed to the nth degree. Please always support public access broadcasting in view of the ongoing relentless attacks upon it.” Napalm Death wrapped up their North American tour last month. The band also delivered their Savage Imperial Death March collaborative album with Melvins earlier in the year.

We couldn’t have predicted this one: Quicksand’s latest preview from their forthcoming Bring On the Psychics album is a “diss track” targeting the so-called cool guys in the hardcore scene. Aptly dubbed “Cool Guy,” the new song is explained in a press release to be “an OG HC diss track” like Minor Threat’s “Small Man, Big Mouth” or Negative Approach’s “Hypocrite” (we’d add guitarist Walter Schreifels “Big Mouth” track with Gorilla Biscuits as another possible point of reference, but we digress.) While inspired by those faster hardcore progenitors, “Cool Guy” proceeds as a melodic, yet pound-forward post-hardcore groover, wherein Schreifels posits that the loudest person in the room can sometimes be the weakest of the bunch (“You always try a little too much / Projecting confidence at someone else’s expense”) and reiterates that they should stop talking shit (“Maybe instead you should just shut it!”). “Sometimes you just gotta get those negative emotions out,” the members of Quicksand add of their heat check. A performance vid of “Cool Guy” is streaming up above. It’s the fifth preview behind Bring On the Psychics, following “Super Collider,” “Get to It,” “Regenerate” and “Crystalize.” As previously reported, the album is out July 17th via Equal Vision.
