Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are reportedly getting married in New York City this weekend, and Sleep Theory have already given the happy couple their gift. Following the Memphis, Tennessee quartet’s recent, chug-forward revamp of *NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye,” the group have now delivered a rocky take on TSwift’s “Cruel Summer.” The cover arrives today (July 2nd) as part of Sleep Theory’s new (E)motional (S)upport (C)are (P)ackage EP, which also includes the aforementioned take on “Bye Bye Bye” and an adaptation of Paramore’s “My Heart.” With “Cruel Summer,” Sleep Theory play it reasonably straight. Their take on the tune, which was original found on Swift’s Lover album from 2019, is transposed to a lower key that fits better with their crunching power chord arrangement and Cullen Moore’s lower vocal range. The frontman also flips the gendering a touch while singing about the “bad, bad girl” at the center of his summer. Sleep Theory likewise fit the cover with a summery vid where Moore is singing in a pool floaty as the rest of the shades-wearing Sleep Theory are either getting tattooed or bashing out the track in a backyard amid plastic pink flamingos. Bring Me the Horizon are bringing it back to their Count Your Blessings era, but with a twist. As previously reported, the group are just about to deliver a fully re-recorded version of that early deathcore classic to celebrate its 20th anniversary, but they’ve also just delivered a new heavy-hitting song called “Dehumanized” that pays homage to their sound circa 2006. The track had been previewed earlier this month on socials through ominous teaser vids of people being debased in some kind of industrial torture chamber. At one point, one person with a set of VR goggles strapped to their skull reports: “Whatever’s about to happen here is not going to be PG.” The song is described in a press release as “carrying the unrelenting aggression and chaos of the band s earliest material while reflecting the scope, ambition and sonic precision that have defined Bring Me the Horizon s evolution.” You can determine this for yourself by giving the song and its Saw-and-Hostel-conjuring torture vid — full of guts-slicing visuals and aural grotesquerie — a peep up above. The impending Count Your Blessings | Repented features fully re-recorded versions of tracks like de facto title cut “Pray for Plagues” (which features multiple variations of the line “count your blessings”), “Black Blue” and “Slow Dance,” along with “Dehumanized,” which closes the album. The redux also features songs that restore BMTH’s “early creative history” — in particular “Liquor Love Lost” is preserved on the new LP under its original working title, “Dragon Slaying”. While it features a brand-new track and updated recordings, vocalist Oli Sykes noted of the Repented project: “We can’t have this record sounding like what bands sound like today. It needs to be the best version of what it sounded like in 2006.” You can pre-order the album here, while CD and vinyl versions of the original Count Your Blessings are up in Revolver’s shop.

Metal News: Sleep Theory Premiere Their Cover Of *NSYNC's 'Bye Bye Bye'

It had become a fan favorite at Sleep Theory live shows.

Sleep Theory have a thing for turn-of-the-century boy bands, we’ve known this since the band started posting vids of themselves harmonizing Backstreet Boys songs. Today (June 18th), they’re bringing their *NSYNC stanning into the limelight with a rock-heavy revamp of that group’s “Bye Bye Bye.” The new cover is a reasonably faithful take on the chart-smashing No Strings Attached single, though Sleep Theory surge triplet-chugged and double-kicked metal moments into the pop song. Vocalist Cullen Moore shares the mic with his bandmates as they adopt the *NSYNC harmonic dynamic. Moore, naturally, takes the lead as the Justin Timberlake stand-in, while bassist Paolo Vergara hits the mic like JC Chasez. A press release further describes their “Bye Bye Bye” as “a sharp showcase for a band with a knack for turning nostalgia into something fresh. Ain’t no lie, that’d be Sleep Theory’s full-blown *NSYNC cover in the pop-and-lockin performance video up above. Sleep Theory continue supporting last year’s Afterglow album with a series of fest appearances, plus a few headlines shows.
