Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless and Pearl Jam's Mike McCready joined Soundgarden during their halftime set at the NFL season opener on September 9.

Seattle Seahawks fans got to see the surviving members of Soundgarden reunite last night (September 9th) during the halftime show of the NFL team’s season-opening showdown against the New England Patriots. The non-televised performance found drummer Matt Cameron, bassist Ben Shepherd and guitarist Kim Thayil joined by Pretty Reckless vocalist Taylor Momsen, who had linked up to sing with the Seattle act a few times in the past — notably, this includes when Soundgarden were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2025. They were also joined by Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, who performed the National Anthem ahead of the game. Notably, all but Shepherd were doing so while sporting Seahawks jerseys (and most of those had Soundgarden patches on them). The ‘Hawks were down 0-7 at the half, but then Soundgarden and Momsen showed them and the rest of Lumen Field the power of Badmotorfinger’s “Outshined” and Superunknown’s “Spoonman.” Sick of feeling so down, Seattle’s football squad turned things around and defeated the Patriots 13-10. In related news, Soundgarden have been out teasing an upcoming album release that incorporates songs and ideas they’d been working on with vocalist Chris Cornell ahead of his death in 2017. Speaking with their local KOMO News, Thayil explained that the band had to “work in a different direction” to complete the songs. “We had to build our performances,” he said. “I mean, the songs were by and large done, but the recordings and the performances weren’t, except for what we had with the vocals and some drums. So then we had to just kind of… It was very forensic in nature. We’d kind of have to tear it all apart and kind of piece it back together.” A timeline for the upcoming Soundgarden release, which will follow 2012’s King Animal, has yet to be revealed.
