Madball are back and ready to reclaim the crown. The hardcore lifers have announced a tenth full-length is on the way, and they’re promoting the upcoming Not Your Kingdom with an old school-reflective anthem called “Rebel Kids.” A press release explains that the song arrives as part of the band’s “most personal release to date,” with the 14-song collection said to be offering “a raw look into Freddy Cricien’s perspective on the current state of the world and the human condition.” With “Rebel Kids,” Madball lean into a melodic-edged NYHC groove full of tom rumbles and suspended chord heft, while Cricien lays out complaints on trend-riders and those that wear rebellion as “fashion”. “The sentiment, vibe and message of the song really became the catalyst for what came after,” the frontman said in a statement. “We all loved the song immediately but I couldn’t have known it would be the first single. We have several songs that we feel could be first ‘out of the gate.’ But in the end, ‘Rebel Kids’ made the most sense musically, lyrically etc… It’s a special one for us and we’re hoping the rest of the world feels the same once they hear it!” The vid, which features the album s brief and almost dub-like Rebelude intro, was partially filmed at Nashville, Tennessee’s American Legion Post 82, a veteran’s club that has played host to a number of rock and blues artists. Per Madball: On this day, the stage “belonged to hardcore. Not Your Kingdom, Madball’s first album since 2018’s For the Cause, was tracked at Nashville’s Boneyard Studios, while additional interludes were recorded by Jeff Stress Davis and Chuck Treece at Chop Shop Studios. The album was produced and engineered by Andrew Baylis, Aiden Thompson and Grady Saxman, with final mixing and mastering done by Lee Rouse. The album is due out July 24th through Nuclear Blast, though an exclusive vinyl variant on “Oxblood Opaque and Opaque Sky Blue”-hued wax is up for pre-order now in Revolver’s shop.
