Welcome back to hell. Extreme-metal veterans Behemoth unleashed their new I, Scvlptor album today (September 4th), and it finds Adam “Nergal” Darski raising cane with Dimmu Borgir vocalist Shagrath on a horns-raising cover of Venom’s unholy occult-metal classic, “In League with Satan.” Nergal and Shagroth teased the song earlier this week with a few clips from a new music video, which finds them tag-team growling Venom bassist Cronos’ original tale of full-moon fever. While it’s not exactly the Goat of Mendes, they also tracked down a horned-and-bearded barnyard co-star to hang out with them in their misty subterranean lair. The walls seem to be decorated in death masks and blood. Though it’s got a similar thunder-cracking rumble as the original, Behemoth transpose the arrangement down several keys, lending a gloomier edge to the cover. Nevertheless, you’ll find Behemoth’s divinely detuned diabolus in musica via the player up above. I, Scvlptor is out now via Nuclear Blast. The 8-song release features a mix of new songs, re-recorded Behemoth material, live cuts and covers — this also including the band’s recent remake of Bathory’s “The Return of Darkness and Evil,” which had been used as the official anthem behind last June’s Mystic Festival in Gdansk, Poland. Notably, Dimmu Borgir also recently released their first album in 8 years, Grand Serpent Rising.
