Jack Black saluted Black Sabbath during his performance at Tom Morello’s Power to the People festival over the weekend, and even managed to jam on-stage with Sab bassist Geezer Butler during “War Pigs” Black’s three-song covers set was billed under the name Jack Sabbath, and it found the comedian and Tenacious D member supported by a back-up band that included Roman Morello on guitar, XCOMM member Revel Ian on bass, drummer Yoyoka Soma and keyboardist Hugo Weiss. This was the same lineup that delivered a pre-recorded cover of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Mr. Crowley” for the Back to the Beginning event in 2025. This past Saturday (October 3rd), they regrouped at Columbia, Maryland’s Merriweather Post Pavilion to once again perform “Mr. Crowley,” as well as Sab songs “The Wizard” and “War Pigs.” Black donned a tributary set of threads — i.e. his own version of one of Ozzy’s old tasseled shirts, splayed with the singer’s name on the front. Ahead of “The Wizard,” Black also gave fans a quick shoutout to Osbourne’s harmonica prowess. “Ozzy Osbourne was a hell of a harmonica player, if you didn’t already know,” he told the crowd, brandishing a bobo of his own — which he honked in suspiciously comedic fashion. “I learned how to play it just for this show. Okay, so it’s a harmonica. All you harmonica players out there, you got to suck, you got to blow, you got to do it right, in the proper hole.” Jack Sabbath’s grand finale brought Butler out to perform the iconic “War Pigs,” doubling the low end heaviness on-stage. It was a pretty solid rip, as you’ll see up above. Black also popped up during Tom Morello’s set, helping the Rage Against the Machine guitarist get through a version of Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” with rapper DMC, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Cypress Hill’s B-Real and Sen Dog, and more. You’ll find that performance below, too.
