The America’s Got Talent judges got a face full of deathcore on the latest episode of the long-running show after Cobalt Mountain frontman Micah Bean dropped into a ghoulish round of gutturals for his cover of Britney Spears’ “Toxic.” Bean, the self-proclaimed “Deathcore Cowboy,” had been promoting his pre-taped appearance on last night’s (June 23rd) AGT airing over the past week or so, telling his IG followers to “prepare [their] pants” for his heavy take on Spears’ early Aughts hit. He mentioned that “the reactions were insane.” And, indeed, the judging panel flipped their lid when the Stetson-topped vocalist bellowed into his subversively shrieked-and-grunted take on the pop song. Ahead of this, the Chattanooga, Tennessee-bred vocalist said he was having a fantastic day, and described his appearance as a “big opportunity.” Despite this, Sofia Vergara, Simon Cowell and Mel B all gave him a resounding “no” vote. “I thought you were going to be a nice boy/country music guy, and then the devil came out of your mouth,” Vergara joked after the performance. While Howie Mandel said he like the genre and compared it to “screamo,” Cowell joked that an audience member passed out from “Toxic” shock. While Bean did not make it to the next round of AGT, he used the opportunity to deliver a studio version of “Toxic” with Cobalt Mountain, full of big brees, sweeping guitars and savage drums. Wanna get addicted to Cobalt Mountain’s poison paradise? Then give Bean’s audition a peep up above before getting a taste of the deathcore-style “Toxic” cover down below. This was not the first time “Toxic” had been made over, metal-style for AGT. Death-metal choir Dremeka served up a screamin’ salute to Spears for the show in 2022.
