Their first new music since the passing of Riley Gale.
Hear "Precinct 3" and "Scavenger," the first new songs since Riley Gale's death.
Texan powerhouses Power Trip have returned with a punishing double-single, which marks the crossover band’s first new music since the 2020 passing of founding vocalist Riley Gale. The arrival of “Precinct 3” and “Scavenger” on streamers today (October 9th) had been teased earlier this week via an ominously foggy Instagram post captioned “FRIDAY”. More explicitly, Record Store Day organizers spilled the beans when they published a list of all of this year’s Black Friday titles, including a 2-song 7” release for “Precinct 3” and “Scavenger,” which is coming out through the band’s new label home, Blue Grape Music. Today, Power Trip unveiled a music video for the armor-piercing “Precinct 3”. The track cracks into max-thrashed rhythms, replete with wrist-grinding picking precision, divebar-crazed solos and a sternum-kicking stomp-mosh finale. Their studio debut with current vocalist Seth Gilmore (who also performs in Fugitive with PT guitarist Blake Ibanez) has the frontman seething over manipulative autocrats and anticipating a people’s uprising. “When we were writing this, we wondered what Riley would have wanted to write about,” Ibanez notes in a statement. “So once we decided on that approach, it honestly came really easily– the lyrics were flowing and it just felt like the right way to kick off this new chapter and honor him. I think he would have been stoked to see it come to fruition.” A fiery music video for “Precinct 3” can be seen up above, while the mid-tempo menace of new tune “Scavenger” — described as being in the same wheelhouse as past PT classics like “Soul Sacrifice” and “Crossbreaker” — is down below. Gilmore adds that the latter is about those “who are willing to attach themselves to another’s hard work, reaping rewards without the dedication or due diligence.” “There are people out there that ride along and develop some sort of self-importance from association,” Gilmore explains. “And from there, they wield that in the wrong directions. Or maybe even against the same people they leeched it from.” Both tracks were recorded at Carrollton, Texas’ Empire Sound with producer Jacob Hansen (Arch Enemy, Volbeat, Amon Amarth, the Black Dahlia Murder, etc.), and they tease a full-length expected to arrive through Blue Grape in 2027. It’ll be Power Trip’s first album since landmark 2010’s thrash effort Nightmare Logic, though their last original track with Gale was 2018 standalone single “Hornet’s Nest.” The group have been working on the upcoming album in some form since at least 2022. The 2-song “Precinct 3”/“Scavenger” single is on streamers now, and will be pressed in time for Record Store Day’s Black Friday event. It’s popping up in limited capacity (1,500 copies total), and it drops November 27th. You can search for your local RSD-approved shop here. Power Trip are also set to perform with Slayer in Mexico this month, as well as at the Sick New World in Fort Worth, Texas. They’re also a part of Down and Pantera’s upcoming “The Great NOLA Trendkill” even in Texas next month.
