Dark wave romanticists She Wants Revenge are out on the road celebrating not just the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut, but new beginnings. Today (October 19th), the band released “Black Wax / Our Love,” their first new song in 8 years, which teases a forthcoming album. The song has technically been in She Wants Revenge’s set list since being premiered on stage in 2025, and was played throughout the band’s recent batch of West Coast dates. “Black Wax / Our Love” emerges through dark velvet hues of post-punk guitar work and hypnotically throbbing drum pulses, above which vocalist Justin Warfield quivers of big risks and the toll of passion (“You’ve got a love-sized hole in your heart”). “We’ve always been fascinated by the contradictions in love: How something can be beautiful and destructive at the same time, and how you can know something isn’t good for you and still find yourself drawn to it,” She Wants Revenge co-founder Adam Bravin explains in a statement. He adds: “There’s a certain darkness in ‘Black Wax,’ but there’s also an energy and a sense of defiance that we love. It feels like a natural evolution of what SWR has always been about, without trying to recreate something we’ve already done.” You can catch the tune in a new video that mixes performance footage of She Wants Revenge with a rooftop battle scene. This was likewise directed by Bravin. Though details are pending, an album titled Loved expected to be released next year on February 12th. It’ll be their first full-length release since 2011’s Valleyheart. In the meantime, She Wants Revenge continue their North American tour tonight at the Felton Music Hall in Felton, California. Next weekend they perform at the inaugural Sick New World festival in Fort Worth, Texas.
