About duudey
Heavy music coverage spans the globe. Keeping track of it usually means fighting through crowded feeds and language barriers. duudey is an editorial aggregator that pulls international news into a single location, pairing articles with translated text and direct Spotify matches.
History
The site started its life as a web radio back in 2012. With an attached blog in 2015, the site evolved into a cultural hub.
We had to shut down the web radio when changing broadcast regulations made independent internet stations unfeasible around 2019.
After the web radio ceased operations, the shared listening sessions moved to a Spotify synchronization engine which we've developed in-house. Built before major apps introduced similar features, this setup allows listeners to join an automated room with a curated playlist or let a live host take over the queue their favorite tracks.
So, today the player docked at the top of the screen keeps the spirit of the original web radio alive.
Content Aggregation and Music Intelligence
Music intelligence means making sense of noise.
After the web radio shut down, we wanted to find a way to keep the community connected and informed about the latest news in the heavy music scene. We built a custom news engine that aggregates articles from various international heavy music outlets, groups duplicates, and uses machine learning models to draft tight summaries in multiple languages.
The news engine running this site consists of multiple machine learning models that match global heavy metal news with translated summaries and official audio. Rather than being a LLM wrapper, the system is a custom-built pipeline of deduplication, summarization, translation, and matching models.
